Breathtaking views over the Cote D'Azur

As I reminisce of the old days of travel, I couldn't help but revisit an old post from 2014 where we had the pleasure of visiting Chateau Eza in the South of France. A stunning 5-star boutique hotel in the enchanting medieval village of Eze, Chateau Eza offers panoramic views over the French Riviera and a contemporary presentation of French and Mediterranean cuisine by Executive Chef Axel Wagner.

Axel Wagner was formerly the executive chef at three Michelin-star and Relais & Châteaux Georges Blanc in Vonnas, France and has brought his experience and style of cooking to the Chateau's kitchen in this 1,000 year-old village of Eze.

Photos simply cannot do justice to the spectacular views from this Michelin-starred restaurant. Prior to our visit, we had seen photos of this 400 year-old chateau but none could prepare us for the awestruck feeling once we stepped through the Chateau's doors onto the sunny terrace on the cliffside overlooking the Mediterranean. We felt transported to another era where time stood completely still.

Our table was nestled within a private alcove perched on the edge of the cliff overlooking the mega yachts dotted across the Corniche-Moyenne horizon.

We thought best to accompany these lovely views with a beautiful glass of Ruinart blanc de blanc, perfectly served in an ornate sculptured champagne flute, how fitting!

Our culinary afternoon began with a lovely amuse-bouche of tomato concasse with goat cheese and pesto.

We opted for both the Menu du Château as well as a selection of dishes from the a la carte menu.

Ravioles végétales à la Roquette du Pays, pignons de pin et essence de céleri* ~ Celeriac ravioli with florals, pine nuts and herbs in a vegetable broth

Un poisson Méditerranéen cuisiné selon le retour du marché ~ Grilled seabass with shellfish and potato puree

Gratin de courge aux coquillages et saint jacques, sabayon au safran* ~ Squash gratin with shellfish and St. Jacques , saffron sabayon

Ombrine « sur peau », baignée d’une essence de coquillage, fruits et légumes d’Automne ~ Grilled halibut in an essence of shellfish broth, autumn fruits and vegetables

Le Petits fours

A lovely way to present sugar cubes

Barre crémeuse à la poire et sa délicieuse glace chocolat ~ Creamy pear crumble with a hazelnut crisp and dark chocolate ice cream

What a lovely way to spend an afternoon relaxing on the French Riviera. From the unrivalled views of the beautiful coastlines of Monaco and France, the unique charm of the 1,000 year-old medieval village of Eze and the impeccable service and cuisine of the chateau, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Chateau Eza.
