Champagne and Oysters in the heart of Soho

Nestled within a quaint spot on the busy Staunton Street, newly opened Bar Bleu is a little seafood haven - a Champagne and Oyster Bar in the heart of Soho.  Not only does Bar Bleu serve the silky No. 2 Fine Claire oysters paired with bubbly, the seasonal French-inspired seafood tasting menu is prepared by VEA alum, Chef Kakei Wong.

No. 2 Fine Claire oysters with Watermelon Granita and Cucumber Vinagrette

The tasting menu began with their signature dish - Fine Claire oysters topped with watermelon granita and cucumber.  A refreshing dish to start with to cleanse the palette.

Next up was the Japanese Aji Horse Mackerel, perfectly seared with a smoky flavour.  The fattiness of the mackerel paired well with the acidity and sweetness of the green apple and horseradish.

The third starter is an interesting pairing of Sardines and Dulce seaweed served atop a lightly toasted piece of focaccia.  I wasn't sure what to expect initially but the flavours worked.  The seaweed added a nice texture to the sardine and focaccia.

And the last starter was a Charred Octopus with Spicy Nduja sausage and ratte potato.

And now for the mains.  When Black Cod is on the menu, one can never refuse. The Black Cod was served over a bed of cauliflower puree and drizzled in beurre blanc, oh that beurre blanc.

And now to one of my favourite dishes of the evening, the King Prawn Vol-au-Vent.  Vol au vent is a traditional French puff pastry which literally means "windblown", describing the lightness of the pastry.  The vol au vent was stuffed with a giant grilled prawn and corn, drizzled with a bisque made from the juices of the king prawn head.  So much flavour packed into such a little parcel.  Yum yum good.

And just when we thought we couldn't eat anymore we managed to find room to devour the tasty freshly baked Madeleines served with a side of lemon creme.  How could we resist, they were so warm and delicious?

I can definitely see Bar Bleu easily becoming of my favourite local neighborhood spots.  Good service, great convenient location and of course tasty seafood dishes.
