En route to Cinque Terre

With its small harbor lined with colorful houses, narrow cobblestone streets leading up to the castle and the magnificent church of San Pietro overlooking the rocky Peninsula, Portovenere is a village which stands still in time. Situated perfectly on the Ligurian coast of Italy just ahead of the Cinque Terre cluster of towns, you will find this breathless village.

Mesmerized by Portovenere's beauty and timelessness we could not help but stay on longer and save Cinque Terre for another time.

At the foot of the rocky climb you will find Le Bocche, a tiny romantic al fresco restaurant specialising in Ligurian cuisine. It's been said that the Beckhams have celebrated a birthday or two at this lovely locale, but no sighting of Becks this evening.

Seafood tartare and salads from the sea

Grilled Mediterranean red shrimp

Lemon calamari

Pesto Trofie

Regional Cinque Terre vino with local varietals

A floral and citrus bouquet white wine which paired perfectly well with the Ligurian seafood and coastal views.

Sciacchetrà Wine: A Sweet Tradition In Cinque Terre

As you continue to sip on this lovely dessert wine, tastes of honey, apricots and figs fall nicely on the palette. Sciacchetrà is made from local grape varietals of Vermentino, Bosco, and Albarola. I cannot think of anything else which paired as nicely with our tiramisu and Fragiolini desserts.

Fresh Mediterranean seafood in a perfect romantic and relaxing setting on the edge of the water, a lovely evening by the sea.
