Peruvian Winter Escape in the 6ix
A perfect escape from the wintry weather in the 6ix at Mira Toronto - what can only be described as a haven of delectable Peruvian dishes and unique wine selections. A must-try is the Experience Mira tasting menu where you leave all important decisions to Chef Stuart Cameron (former Chef of Byblos and Patria) and his wonderful team at Mira to fill your palates with glee.
Gorgeous dish after dish kept arriving at our table so beautifully presented and tasty beyond words. The meal begins with a selection of their signature Ceviche, the Altamar ceviche with red snapper aji amarillo and kumquat and Nikkei Chuleton with wagyu beef and truffle ponzu were absolutely divine. Yes, wagyu and truffle.
Following the apertivos, arrived the mains including the most mouth-watering dry aged rib eye I have tasted in awhile. The Chuleton was a perfectly cooked and seasoned, tender medium-rare rib eye that I am still thinking about.
Next to arrive was the Seco de Cordero lamb shoulder which was equally tender. Wine pairings for the mains included a well rounded 2016 Losada, 2016 Vignadores de Carignan from the Maule Valley, and a 2009 QP Reserva Rioja.
And the grand finale was the Chocolate bomb dessert, a dark chocolate sphere filled with yuzu marmalade, honeycomb, raspberry chocolate brownie, coffee ice cream and almonds. You need to crack open with your spoon to release the wonderful treasures inside. Would definitely return to Mira for another evening of tasty dishes, wonderful and friendly service, and great music and vibe.
