Bravo, I've finally found a tasty Cicchetti spot in Hong Kong!  Creative Italian small plates with a modern twist at newly opened Posso in Hong Kong. Chef-owner Max Wong, previously from 22 Ships and Shady Acres has founded a new hidden little gem in the neighbourhood of Sheung Wan.  Although the menu is only one page, each dish certainly holds its own.  The modest menu is split into three sections; Small, Big and Sweet and we were advised that we should order around 6-8 dishes for two people.

The first dish that arrived was the Scallop Crudo, accented with confit lemon and ginger.  The plump and luscious scallop pieces were absolutely divine. A light, bright dish that added much needed sunshine to an otherwise dreary cold winters day.

Next arrived the Grilled Octopus, tender pieces of octopus in a butternut squash and ink sauce.  The butternut squash and ink offered a rich and intense flavour pairing.

A nice wine to accompany these dishes is the 2019 Zensa Fiano from Salento, Italy with hints of quince, mango and marmalade.

A must try on the menu is the Tiger Prawn Risotto.  Think meaty pieces of Tiger Prawn draped over a very rich umami shrimp roe flavoured risotto.

If you like mushrooms, you should order the Wild Mushroom dish.  Six types of mushrooms including the elusive Morel mushroom coated in eggs made two ways.

My favourite dish was the Bucatini alle Vongole, though I am slightly biased as I love all things clam related.  The Bucatini was perfectly cooked to an al dente texture and coated in olive oil with anchovies and the trifecta of garlic, lemon and chili.  And of course topped with succulent clams drenched in this garlic lemon chili goodness.  A nice wine to pair with the Vongole is the Vecchia Torre Chardonnay from Puglia, Italy which offers lovely tangerine, pear and tropical notes.

We were tempted to continue ordering the Ravioli in Sage Brown Butter and the Iberico Pork Collar dishes but were quite full already.  We also wanted to save some room for the highly recommended Zeppole for dessert.  Zeppole is a fluffy Italian doughnut typically stuffed with custard or cream.  Posso's Zeppole was filled with sweet chestnut cream and topped with maple toffee syrup, white chocolate and tonka beans. Such fluffy perfection.

What a delightful meal at Posso and a great addition to the already foodie-laden allies of Sheung Wan.  I cannot wait to return to try some of the other Cicchetti creations on our next visit.
