Portofino, a picturesque fishing village on the Italian Riviera boasts not only stunning views but beautiful coastal cuisine. Nabbing a table at one of the harbour restaurants for lunch or dinner is a must and the one to try is Ristorante Puny.
Ristorante Puny, a traditional and charming restaurant on La Piazzetta overlooking the harbour, serves Ligurian classics like pappardelle al portofino with a mix of tomato and pesto sauce and beautifully prepared seafood dishes.
The spaghetti con polpo at Ristorante Puny is certainly one dish not to be missed. Homemade spaghetti with fresh baby octopus tossed in a beautiful sauce of garlic, tomato, olive oil, red pepper flakes and a touch of anchovy paste. The hint of anchovy brought out the sweetness of the baby octopus.
A simple salad of langoustines, octopus and clams with a light coat of lemon, olive oil and Ligurian pesto.
A simple yet tasty dish we discovered was anchovies on buttered crostini. It is as simple as it sounds, anchovies on toast! Something we will gladly and easily make at home.
A lovely dish of succulent prawns grilled to perfection with a taste of the Mediterranean. The prawn shells easily came off with two simple cuts as carefully demonstrated by Mr. Puny himself. It is that simple and personal touch of hospitality that makes dining at Da Puny special. Mr. Puny personally greets and hosts all of his guests, whether you are dining at his restaurant for the first time, a regular or a VIP celebrity.
We finished off with a strawberry semifreddo with tiny berries soaked in Fragoli liqueur, drizzled over a creamy vanilla semifreddo. Simply delicious.
