A Corsican Retreat

As the world comes in and out of lock down, I cannot help but think of other places where it might be worthwhile to spend the next wave.  Corsica has been a long time favourite on our travel bucket list for many years. We finally managed to get ourselves there last year for a birthday retreat and what a treat it was.

Miles and miles of natural and unspoilt beaches, pristine turquoise blue waters and private coves.  If you were seeking even more seclusion and privacy, Ile de Cavallo, a small island which lies in the Lavezzi archipelago between Corsica and Sardinia is your place. A perfect spot for a secluded getaway.

We had the pleasure of staying at Hotel des Pecheurs, a chic 50-room boutique hotel overlooking the lagoon and a cluster of unique rock formations.  Hotel des Pecheurs is an ideal spot to unwind with a glass of bubbly as you watch the most stunning sunsets from your own private balcony.

La Ferme is a hidden little gem located in the heart of the island with a view next to none.  Perched on a hilltop, La Ferme serves fresh Mediterranean seafood and delicious Corsican dishes.  We were delightfully surprised with the friendly service, quality and flavours of the seafood, and enjoyed its chic rustic atmosphere and decor. Many hours could be easily spent here over a long lazy summer lunch in this wonderful tranquil setting.

We started with some apertifs while perusing the menu and enjoying La Pietra, a refreshingly light local Corsican beer.

We were presented with the Fresh catch of the day which included Mediterranean Seabass, Bream, Spiny Lobster, Langoustine and Mullet.  We opted for the Grilled Seabass along with the Langoustine and fresh local vegetables.

And for la pièce de résistance, we paired with our dessert the N ° 655, the Muscat du Cap Corse from Domaine Marengo, a local Corsican sweet wine which was absolutely divine. Domaine Marengo, a family owned winery was founded by Marina and Benoit Bronzini de Caraffa in 2007, situated on a beautiful 1.2ha plot at the foot of San Angelo mountain, plot N ° 655.

We enjoyed our al fresco lunch and would loved to have returned for another delicious meal.  As the restaurant and Ile de Cavallo are only open to visitors during the Summer season, we were very lucky to catch lunch there on the final day before they closed for the season.  A perfect excuse to visit the beautiful Ile de Cavallo again.
