Autumn in Venice
There is really nothing like exploring the streets and canals of Venice in the Autumn when the weather is slightly cooler and there are less tourists around.
One of my favourite spots to pop into in Venice is Ristorante Adriatica at the Hotel Il Palazzo Experimental. Nestled in the heart of Venice's Dorsoduro quarter, it is located away from the main tourist areas amongst hipster eateries, bars and vintage boutiques.
Hotel Il Palazzo Experimental is adorned with marble furnishings, lagoon-coloured walls and arched doorways throughout, designed by renown French interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon.
Ristorante Adriatica is a great spot to drop in for some quick cocktails and Cichetti or for a lovely dining experience.
We ordered most of the items on the Cicchetti menu along with some tasty pasta dishes and certainly did not regret our choices.
The Cicchetti
A favourite small bite I often make at home as a snack is lightly toasted and buttered brioche with Anchovies and cheese. Ristorante Adriatica's version was clearly far superior to my homemade creation.
The Sesame crostini topped with smoked cod was also a perfect light bite to accompany our cocktails.
A very tasty and memorable Cichetti was the Arrosticini Al Cumino E Maionese Al Pepe dello Sichuan, lamb skewers with cumin and sichuan pepper mayonnaise. A nice smoky taste with a kick of spice.
And last but not least the Bottarga and Burrata bombetta. What's not to love about anything with Bottarga?
The Pasta
The cicchetti were perfect small bites to whet our appetite for the main pasta dishes. First up was the Agnolotti Con Ricotta di Bufala, Limone e Cardoncelli, Agnolotti with Buffalo ricotta, lemon and oyster mushrooms. The woodiness of the oyster mushrooms in the sauce added a nice hearty Autumn feel to the dish.
Anytime I see any dish with clams in it I always have to order it to try. Spaghetti Cavalieri Con Caparossoli, is Ristorante Adriatica's take on a very buttery texture yet fragrant Spaghetti Vongole. The Venetian clams were enveloped in extra virgin olive oil, garlic, parsley and chili flakes and tossed in with the perfectly cooked al dente spaghetti. Another plate please!
The Mafaldine Fresche Con Ragu di Coniglio e Maggiorana was tossed in a rich rabbit ragu and marjoram sauce.
There were only three dessert options on the menu so we decided to try them all. The Tiramisu was topped with grappa-infused Zabaione and absolutely divine. The Torta Al Limone Bruciato and the Palline di Gelato were both very refreshing.
A very satisfying meal at Ristorante Adriatica, followed by a nice walk back to the hotel along the waterfront taking in the beautiful Venetian night views.
