Gastronomie de Chamonix - Part II
For an ultimate traditional gastronomy experience in Chamonix, you must try to secure a reservation at the Michelin-starred Le Hameau Albert 1er. A blend of alpine tradition and modernity, Le Hameau Albert 1er is nestled under the Aiguilles de Chamonix and situated within a five-star boutique hotel. The hotel is comprised of traditional chalets and a historical building that is over a century old, formerly known as the "Railway Guesthouse" (Pension du Chemin de Fer).
Perrine Carrier is now the fifth generation of her family to welcome you to this prestigious establishment. "It is here that the link between the high mountains, high-end hospitality, and haute cuisine has been forged. A place that has always known how to preserve the harmony of its family structure while encapsulating the spirit of discovery that transcends the mountain peaks and these kitchens."
At Le Hameau Albert 1er, Head Chef Damien Leveau creates innovative haute cuisine with a perfect balance of flavours in a traditional alpine setting. An ever evolving Tasting Menu, along with 2, 3 and 5 course set menus are offered, with the 2 course set menu only available at lunch.
A much anticipated part of our dining experience was the multi-layered cheese trolley. As the trolley was being rolled towards us, my mouth was salivating. I personally love soft cheeses, the creamier and stinkier the better. However, it would seem that the beautiful flower at our table did not share the same sentiments.
We very much enjoyed our delicious cheese plates. The Livarot and Reblochon were creamy, smooth and sublime. I only wish that we had a robust cheese trolley like this at home, though am thinking that my plants and flowers may possibly not survive lol...
The dessert trolley and its vast assortment of sweet treats was also memorable. We were properly spoiled with heavenly treats, from the Java chocolate with Perigord truffle, Mont Blanc to the Tahitian Vanilla chocolate macaroons.
Le Hameau Albert 1er is definitely worth a visit if you are in the mood for fine dining in Chamonix.
